OCTOPUS

MATERIALS
4 strands of Craft Lace (60” each)
8 pony bead
2 craft eyes
INSTRUCTIONS
- Take 4 strands of Craft Lace, fold in half to find middle, and then make a knot. Braid each side with a traditional style braid.
- Fold braided Craft Lace in half and make a TURKISH HAT KNOT. Do this 3 times to form the octopus body.
- At the bottom of the body, take the 8 strands of Craft Lace; divide into 4 sets (2 strands each set). Take each set and fasten/knot around the bottom of the body. Knot into place.
- Curly finish: To curl up ends of lacing, take a pencil and wrap ends of lace around it. Under parental supervision, place curled up ends into boiling water for 20 seconds then put into cold water for 20 seconds to cool. Unwrap ends and separate.
- Put a pony bead on each of the 8 strands of Craft Lace and knot into place. Measure about 4” from pony bead to end of leg. Cut off excess craft lace.
- Glue eyes onto head.
TURKISH HAT KNOT
1) Make a first loop. Make a second loop over the top of the first loop.
2) Make a third loop by threading the lacing through the first 2 loops.
3) Make a final loop (as shown in sketch). Repeat steps 1-3 to form a larger knot.
4) To finish the knot, tighten all strands well and tie off ends
